Young ruminants and pigs are born without sufficient immune protection, as an antibody transfer in the womb is not possible due to the structure of the maternal placenta. Therefore, the immediate use of high quality colostrum after birth is of vital importance.
Different studies have shown that the immunity of new-born animals is decreasing. In modern animal breeds the amount of colostrum (high litter sizes), its content of immunoglobulins (high yielding dairy cows) or their specificity (bought-in sows/cows without adaptation) is often insufficient. Even if everything runs perfectly, the young animal naturally suffers from two immunity gaps. The first one occurs shortly after birth, before the first intake of colostrum. The second one, after 4-6 weeks when the maternal protection from the colostrum decreases while their own immune system is not yet adequately built up. Hence, it is necessary to support young animals especially during these critical phases of life.
Our Young Animal Nutrition Program is developed with the objective to support the immature immune system of animals during these two critical phases. The different formats of the products bring flexibility assisting to achieve the full potential of growth.
