Mitigate the microbial load at source points

Formycine reduces the microbial load in raw materials, finished feed and milling equipment, as a fine powder for long-lasting sanitization and as a liquid for a crackdown effect.

Raw material arrives with a microbial history

Sanitization is the one intervention that acts on the microbial load already present, rather than on the conditions that allow it to grow. Formycine is applied where that load enters the mill, in raw materials and at the mixer, and to the equipment that would otherwise carry contamination from one batch to the next. Two formats cover dry and liquid dosing.

Salmonella-positive ingredients, contaminated returns and equipment that has run a positive batch all deliver a load that no downstream additive was designed to remove. Sanitization treats that load directly, at intake and at the mixer, and it is the only step in the process that does.

How feed sanitization works

0

Sanitization.

Formycine offers broad and effective control of microbes in raw materials, finished feed, and milling equipment, addressing contamination at the point where it can still be controlled.

0

Complementary action against microorganisms.

Formaldehyde disrupts cell membrane and coagulates proteins, exerting antimicrobial activity against a broad range of pathogens. Propionic acid acts as a metabolic inhibitor, impairing normal cell processes, acting against recontamination.

0

A public health issue.

Microbiological contamination of the feed impacts the host and poses a risk to animal health and performance, as well as public health. A proper feed sanitization improves the microbiological quality of the feed and helps in preventing such risks.

Technical notes

Recontamination.

Sanitization treats the microbial load present at the time of treatment. Without an in-feed acidifier or preservative, treated feed can be recontaminated during storage, transport and on-farm handling.

Regulatory status.

Formaldehyde was denied authorization as an EU feed additive under Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2018/183 and remains unauthorized. Formaldehyde is allowed for use in animal feeds in the U.S. (36 C.F.R. §573.460). Both products in this range are for markets outside the EU only.

Worker safety.

Handling requirements for formaldehyde-containing products are set nationally. Confirm the applicable exposure limits, protective equipment and dosing enclosure requirements for your market before use.

What the trials show

Formycine Gold Px, lasting pathogen control:

Bacterial contamination of the feed treated with different levels of Formycine Gold Px shows a rapid and lasting sanitation: Salmonella, E. coli and C. perfringens were not detected after treatment with 2 kg/T for all measures (at 24h, 48h, 72h and 15 days). Complete sanitization was obtained with 1 kg/T after 24h for E. coli, 48h for Salmonella, and 72h for C. perfringens, with no recontamination.

Formycine Liquido, Salmonella-contaminated feed:

An autoclaved feed was inoculated with Salmonella enteritidis serovar Typhimurium DSM 19587 to 10⁶ CFU/g, then treated with Formycine Liquido at 0.5, 1, and 2 l/T. The product reduced Salmonella by 1 to 3 logs at 0.5 l/T over 24 to 72 h, below detection at 1 l/T after 48 h, and below detection at 2 l/T within 24 h, demonstrating dose-dependent control of Salmonella in feed.

Broilers, pathogen defense trial:

In a trial, broilers were split into control and Formycine Gold Px groups for 4 weeks, with FGPx supplemented at 1 kg/ton of feed throughout life. Birds receiving Formycine Gold Px showed lower fecal bacterial counts (total bacterial count, E. coli and Salmonella) and improved body weight (+75 g) at 4 weeks of age, supporting its benefit for feed hygiene and gut health management.

Where it fits

Sanitization is a targeted intervention rather than a standing program. It belongs at intake when raw material risk is known, at the mixer when a monitoring result calls for it, and on the equipment when a positive batch has passed through the line. Mills that run a preservative continuously add sanitization when the risk picture justifies it.
