Why toxin pressure is a performance question

Animals meet toxins from two directions. Mycotoxins arrive with the feed. Endotoxins are released inside the animal when Gram-negative bacteria grow and die. Mastersorb and Solis lines address both, with formulations graded from a straightforward EU approved solution for the reduction of feed contamination by aflatoxin B1, to a ruminant-specific mineral feed, including premium formulated solutions to support intestinal integrity and liver function.

Mycotoxins rarely arrive alone. Several are typically present in the same feed, with additive and synergistic effects, and the consequences range from immunosuppression and reduced feed intake to systemic damage. Bacterial endotoxins add a second, less visible load by potentiating the intestinal and inflammatory effects of mycotoxins. This amplification weakens the health status of the animals and the consequent metabolic cost is paid for in feed conversion.

Mastersorb and Solis

Our Toxin Risk Management portfolio counts with the line Mastersorb, coming from Brazil and built on a specific proprietary clays and yeast sources, and the line Solis coming from Europe, built on European approved raw material for the reduction of feed contamination by aflatoxin B1. Because not every operation needs the same formulation, our portfolio offers flexibility and adaptability to answer every situation.

How the line works

Adsorption.

Adsorbents, such as bentonites with a layered silicate structure, adsorb toxins in the digestive tract so they pass through without being absorbed. Other materials, such as yeast cell walls and diatomaceous earth extend the range of molecules retained beyond what clay alone achieves. Organ support. Yeast cell walls not only play a major role in toxins’ adsorption, but they also benefit

Organ support.

Yeast cell walls not only play a major role in toxins’ adsorption, but they also benefit immune function that is one of the first damage caused by toxins. Selected phytogenics are also included in several formulations to support hepatic function and intestinal integrity, which is where the metabolic cost of toxin exposure is concentrated.

Technical notes and data

Selectivity.

A binder must not interact with the nutritional components of the diet. Selectivity against nutrients is a design requirement for this line. Ask for the nutrient-interaction data for your inclusion rate and premix specification.

Endotoxin load.

A single E. coli cell contains around one million endotoxin molecules. Endotoxin adsorption in the gastrointestinal tract is a route to mitigating the inflammatory consequences of bacterial die-off during dysbiosis and antibiotic treatment.

What the trials show

Recovered performance; gut and liver resilience and profitability in broilers:

On an experimental farm in India, 480 broilers were exposed to 2,000 ppb DON and 5,000 ppb FB1 from day 11 to 42. Solis Max 2.0 restored feed efficiency and growth to control levels, halved mortality versus the challenged group, avoided a 0.18 EUR/head loss, and delivered a 5:1 ROI. Solis Max 2.0 efficiently reduced intestinal inflammation, improved gut barrier markers, reduced serum LPS versus the challenged group, and brought liver inflammation and oxidative-stress markers closer to control levels

Improved growth and feed efficiency in beef cattle:

In feedlot bulls exposed to extreme contamination with multiple mycotoxins in Brazil, Mastersorb Gold improved average daily gain by about 14% and feed conversion by 6-13%, increased dry matter digestibility, and generated an additional net benefit of US$62.7 per head compared with the control group.

Higher milk yield and better udder health in dairy cows:

On a commercial dairy farm in Germany, first-lactation cows supplemented with Mastersorb Premium showed consistently higher milk production, a reduction of 212,000 somatic cells/mL during the trial period, and lower blood glutamate dehydrogenase levels, indicating improved liver health.

Performance recovery and fewer mycotoxicosis signs in piglets:

In Croatia, 24 female weaned piglets over 35 days were placed under a DON and ZEA challenge, with Solis Max at 1 kg/t feed. Solis Max recovered 73% of feed intake versus the challenged group, improved FCR by 20 points, and prevented significant signs of mycotoxicosis in female piglets.

Higher egg output, egg quality, and protected health in laying hens:

In Thailand, 270 laying hens aged 26 weeks were evaluated under chronic AFB1 and fumonisin exposure. Solis Max produced 1.6 more eggs per hen housed than the challenged group, improved egg quality, reduced inflammatory markers, improved antioxidant status, and reduced LPS, indicating better gut-barrier protection.

Where it fits

Toxin mitigation works best as a standing program rather than a reaction. Feed analysis establishes the baseline risk, inclusion is set against that risk, and monitoring confirms it. Breeding and young animals are usually supplemented continuously, growing animals in response to raw material results and seasonal risk. EW Nutrition’s Toxin Risk Management program combines the products with sampling, analysis and on-site advice.
