Milk, milk replacer, compound feed, top dressing, on-farm dosing

Active principle

Egg immunoglobulins (IgY) from whole egg powder

Gut Health

Why the first hours matter

Calves, piglets, lambs and foals are born without circulating antibodies, because the maternal placenta does not permit antibody transfer in utero. The first days of life are decisive, and gut absorption of immunoglobulins declines rapidly. Globigen provides a standardized source of functional IgY produced from pasteurized whole egg powder under documented Salmonella and avian health monitoring that can be delivered in milk, milk replacer, feed or as an on-farm dose.

A piglet’s intestine can absorb only about 25% of colostral antibodies twelve hours after birth. Calves are born with 2.8% body fat compared with 15% in humans, leaving little metabolic reserve for an immune challenge. In this window, enteric pathogen pressure translates directly into mortality, diarrhea incidence and lifetime performance loss. Supplying additional functional immunoglobulins is a nutritional intervention, not a therapeutic one, and it is compatible with any health program.

Gut Health

How IgY works

0

Local action in the gut.

IgY binds enteric pathogens and their adhesins in the intestinal lumen, reducing attachment to the mucosa and lowering the pathogen load reaching the epithelium.

0

Closing the immunity gap.

Supplementation covers the period between declining maternal antibody protection and the animal’s own antibody production.

0

Reducing infection pressure at the source.

Applied to sows during gestation and lactation, IgY reduces pathogen shedding, lowering the challenge that newborn piglets meet.

What the trials show

Support against diarrhea, support for fecal consistency and survival after weaning:

Evidenced in 2 piglet trials with 270 weaned pigs in the Philippines and 32 castrated male weaned pigs in an ETEC F4/F18 challenge trial where location was not stated. In the Philippines, diarrhea incidence decreased from 11.1% to 6.7% and mortality from 7.5% to 1.3% with Globigen Jump Start; in the ETEC trial, the GJS group maintained fecal consistency scores indicating soft to normal feces, ≤1, while the DPP and challenged groups experienced several days of diarrhea.

Post-weaning weight gain and ADG:

Evidenced in 4 trials totaling 270 pigs in the Philippines, 200 piglets in Spain across two trials, 314 piglets in France, and >150 piglets in Spain. GJS increased total weight gain by 3.0 to 4.5 kg in the Philippines, increased ADG by >15% across the two Spanish trials, improved ADG by 5% vs spray-dried plasma in France, and achieved significantly higher starter-phase daily gain than ZnO in Spain, with final weight 800 g higher than the ZnO group.

Feed conversion and feed efficiency:

Evidenced in 3 quantified trials with 270 weaned pigs in the Philippines, 32 ETEC-challenged weaned pigs, and 360 weaned pigs in a USA nursery research facility. In the Philippines, FCR improved from 1.96 to 1.64 at 1 kg/t and to 1.47 at 2 kg/t; in the ETEC model, GJS improved feed efficiency during days 6-12 to 0.80 kg gain/kg feed vs 0.39 in challenged controls and 0.45 with DPP; in the USA plasma-replacement trial, FCR was statistically similar but numerically better with GJS at weeks 1, 2, and 6.

ZnO-replacement endpoints, coliform shedding, mortality, and final weight:

Evidenced in 1 blind commercial-farm trial in Spain with >150 weaned piglets allocated to negative control, ZnO, or GJS groups. GJS at 2 kg/t in prestarter produced a final weight of 16.97 kg vs 16.18 kg with ZnO and 16.79 kg in the negative control, significantly higher starter-phase daily gain (0.352 kg vs 0.305 kg with ZnO; p = 0.0194), and lower mortality than control (1.82% vs 3.92%).

Economic efficiency and ROI/cost-of-gain parameters:

Evidenced in 2 trials with 270 weaned pigs in the Philippines and 615 pigs at Iowa State University, USA. In the Philippines, the 2 kg/t GJS group achieved an ROI of 4:1 alongside lower diarrhea, lower mortality, higher weight gain, and improved FCR; in the Iowa trial, GJS had the lowest cost of gain at $0.59/kg, compared with $0.61/kg for control and $0.65/kg for SDPP, while maintaining performance and medical-treatment outcomes comparable to plasma.

Support for the reduction of pathogenic pressure in the farrowing unit:

Evidenced in 1 field trial in Japan involving 16 sows (2 groups of 8 animals) receiving Globigen Sow at 10 g/sow/day during the 10 days before and 7 days after farrowing. Compared with controls, Globigen Sow reduced fecal shedding of total E. coli, E. coli O141, and Clostridium perfringens, with post-farrowing counts decreasing from 6.75 to 6.30 log10 CFU/g for total E. coli, from 6.41 to 5.60 log10 CFU/g for E. coli O141, and from 4.73 to 4.24 log10 CFU/g for C. perfringens. The study concluded that lowering sow pathogen shedding reduced environmental pathogenic pressure for newborn piglets in the farrowing unit

Where it fits

There are three entry points. Milk replacer and creep feed formulation, where Globigen Life Start and Jump Start are used as standardized ingredients. Sow and dam feeding, where Globigen Sow reduces the pathogen load the newborn meets. And on-farm dosing, where the Globigen On Farm Solutions range covers acute situations. Most successful programs combine at least two of these.
