Gut function support during Eimeria challenges

Pretect D is a thermostable tannin and saponin blend developed to support gut health under challenges. It works alongside coccidiosis control programs, vaccines, ionophores and chemicals in shuttle and rotation schemes.

Gut Health

The rotation problem

Coccidiosis control depends on rotation, and rotation depends on having enough tools. Pretect D was developed as an additional, plant-based component for shuttle and rotation programs, reducing the pressure on the ionophore and chemical positions in the schedule.

Anticoccidial sensitivity declines with continuous use, and the number of registered molecules is not growing. Producers need program positions that reduce selection pressure without giving up control. Pretect D is designed for exactly those positions: grower II and finisher, used alongside or in rotation with licensed anticoccidials. Program design should be agreed with your veterinarian.

Gut Health

How it works

0

Maintains gut function.

A complex formulation helps maintain intestinal function during periods of high challenge, supporting the mucosal barrier.

0

Supports natural defenses.

The Pretect line helps limit on-farm spread and supports the birds’ natural defenses during protozoal challenges.

0

Limits oxidative and inflammatory damage.

Plant phenolics help protect the epithelium from inflammatory and oxidative damage during and after a challenge.

0

Fits the program.

Designed for use in combination with vaccines, ionophores and chemicals, as part of shuttle or rotation programs.

Program support for poultry gut health under Eimeria pressure

A proprietary blend of tannins and saponins that maintains gut function during challenging periods. Trials within coccidiosis control programs have shown maintained zootechnical performance when Pretect D occupies a program position. It supports the reduction of antibiotic and ionophore use in poultry production.

What the trials show

Body weight, FCR, and EPEF in coccidiosis-vaccinated broilers:

Evidenced in a US trial with 800 Cobb 500 broilers over 42 days. Pretect D at 500 g/MT increased final body weight from 2,268 g to 2,445 g, improved FCR from 1.69 to 1.63, and increased EPEF from 315.6 to 354.3.

Growth performance under mixed Eimeria challenge:

Evidenced in a US trial with 3,432 Cobb 500 broilers, challenged on day 21 with E. acervulina, E. maxima, and E. tenella. Pretect D at 1,000 ppm achieved 127.96 g higher body weight vs. challenged control, 104.75 g higher body weight vs. monensin, 8-point better FCR vs. challenged control, 5-point better FCR vs. monensin, and 35/21 points higher EPEF vs. challenged control/ionophore.

Coccidial lesion score, oocyst shedding, and Peyer’s patches:

Evidenced in a US trial with 1,800 Cobb 500 broilers, challenged with mixed Eimeria inoculum on day 21. Pretect D at 500 ppm produced a significantly lower average coccidial lesion score than the challenged control, an average score similar to Salinomycin, lower ileal Peyer’s patches than both groups, and reduced total OPG from 6,268 to 655 on day 27 and from 22,981 to 2,300 on day 35.

Livability and FCR versus competitor product under NAE, used-litter, coccidiosis-challenge conditions:

Evidenced in 1 US broiler-farm trial with 1,200 broilers, raised on 13-turn used litter, fed an NAE diet, vaccinated against coccidiosis on day 1, and challenged with a 20-fold vaccine dose on day 15. Pretect D at 250 g/t improved FCR by 0.9 points on day 35 and 0.3 points on day 57, and increased livability by 1.17 and 2.82 percentage points on the same days versus the competitor product.

Final body weight and FCR versus control and phytogenic competitor:

Evidenced in a US commercial research-facility trial with 1,440 Ross 708 male broilers, placed on 13-times used litter and vaccinated against coccidiosis on day 1. Pretect D at 250 g/t during starter and grower produced significantly higher final body weight than control (2.795 vs. 2.736 kg) and significantly better FCR than control (1.562 vs. 1.620), while being numerically better than the competitor product for both final weight and FCR

Where it fits

Pretect Max can start from day 1 when severe challenges are suspected or confirmed. Pretect D typically occupies the grower II and finisher positions in a shuttle program, following an ionophore or chemical in starter and grower I. They are also used in rotation programs to open up a non-ionophore cycle, and alongside vaccination to support birds through the vaccine reaction window.
Pair them with OPGenius oocyst monitoring to time the intervention against actual field pressure.
